FAQs
How long will my web design project take?
Of course, the time it takes to complete a project depends upon the complexity of the project and our current workload, but once all client materials have been delivered, a typical turn-around time for production of the layout prototype ranges from 2 to 4 weeks. Once you have approved a layout, actual coding and uploading can be done in a week or two. Much will depend on how many changes are made to the layout.
What if I don't know anything about domain names and hosting?
Not to worry. We’ll walk you through the process. Alternatively, we can do all the set-up for you, and we can even host your web site.
What if I already have a web site?
Southern Shores Web Design can take your existing layout and bring it up to current W3C standards, using CSS coding and JavaScript, or we can use the basic content and redesign the look and interactivity of your site. If you want to know more about W3C standards, visit www.W3C.org.
Can I update my own web site?
Yes. Once your web site is “live”, we can enable you to make changes to your site without any technical training, and without fear of “breaking” the site.
Will my web site be compatible with all browsers?
Yes. Your site will be tested in all the most popular browsers to make sure it looks and functions the way it was designed to.
What is a Dynamic Database and why would I need one?
On a "static" web page, when you type in the URL for a web page, your browser simply goes out and finds the file and displays it on your computer screen. All the interactivity (links, animation, menus) occurs right on your own computer according to the instructions in the web page.
On a "dynamic" web page, however, you can send out a request for certain information, and that request is processed before the results are displayed on your screen. This occurs, for example, when you are on a page with a list of products, and you can choose to see only those products by a certain manufacturer or within a certain price range..
There are many reasons why you may need a dynamic database designed for your web site:
- You may want to display information that will change from time to time. For example, if you have a page that lists staff information and photos, you would want to be able to add and delete information without redesigning your web page.
- You may have products to sell, and your inventory will change regularly.
- You may have a schedule of events that changes periodically.
- You may want visitors to your site to be able to sort through information. For example, you might want your customers to be able to see just the products in a particular category, or in a particular color.
- You may want to be able to collect and store information from your site visitors. For example, if you want your visitors to be able to register or sign up for something on your site, you would need a database to collect the information.
- You maywant to require a login for your site.
Whether you need a small database or a full Content Management System, we can help you make it happen.
What if my project involves complex coding or databases?
Southern Shores Web Design has a network of consultants available to tackle any web site needs: advanced programmers, branding consultants, a social network marketing consultant, and an internet marketing consultant. If our designers can't handle your specific requirements, we have someone who can!
What if I don't live on the Outer Banks?
No problem! We can confer over the phone and share information by email. An addition, we have a dedicated client portal that allows us to upload "in progress" pages or sample color schemes or layouts. Each of our clients has password-protected access to their own sample pages.
